July 2004 - 7IC attempting to cross Norway TOYOYA 7IC PUT TO THE TEST IN EXTREME CHARITY CHALLENGE
An employee at Malvik Fryselager, a cold storage company and long-established customer of Toyota, is putting a Toyota forklift to the test by attempting to drive it 2,800 kilometres from the south of the country to the north in the name of charity.
The 7IC 2.5 ton vehicle features the new Deluxe Cabin and is fitted with SAS and OTC making it well equipped to help complete the challenge.
Based in Trondheim, forklift driver Ove Alstad is putting the vehicle through its paces on the infamous tourist route from the southern-most point of Norway, Lindeness, to the most northerly point, Nordkapp, raising funds for orphaned children in Russia.
The first person to ever attempt this route by forklift, Ove began his journey on 3 July with the backing of Toyota Truck Norway, which is sponsoring him the equivalent value of the state-of-the-art vehicle.
Available on 7IC models, with capacity ranging from 2 to 3.5 tonnes, the Deluxe Cabin is designed specifically for forklift drivers working in challenging environments and can deal with extreme weather, hot and cold. It features a powerful 6kw heater which maintains optimum temperatures inside the enclosed cab and an optional air conditioning system to help cool the cabin when temperatures rise. For poor lighting conditions, particularly during the winter months and shorter days, powerful front working lights provide better viewing as well as extra illumination for loading and unloading pallets.
Jan Høgli, sales director, Toyota Truck Norway commented: “The Deluxe cabin provides the ultimate in comfort for drivers and can cope with both extreme weather and working conditions. It will be an unfamiliar site on the open roads but its enhanced features will make it safe and comfortable for Ove.”
Ove Alstad added: “I was very happy when Toyota Truck Norway let me have a 7IC forklift with the new Deluxe Cabin. The comfort and performance of the vehicle means I am confident it will make the distance to the Nordkapp. It is reassuring to know that if I do encounter bad weather, it will be able to cope with extreme conditions and I am confident it will perform.”
With the North Cape in his sights, Ove has set a target of 150 kilometres per day and will take an estimated three weeks to complete the journey. Along for the ride will be Norwegian national and local radio stations, and press and branch magazines which will all report on his progress and assist Ove in his fundraising. There will also be day-to-day reports on the Toyota Truck Norway website (www.toyotatruck.no)
