Toyota's unique electric DNA

Toyota's unique electric DNA

May 2006 - Toyota extends electric DNA across its electric forklift range

With the launch of the 3-wheel, 24-volt Traigo forklift, Toyota Industrial Equipment Europe has responded to market requests by extending Toyota's unique 'Electric DNA' across Toyota’s electric forklift range.

Toyota's Electric forklift DNA concept consists of three key Toyota technologies: System of Active Stability (SAS), the AC² Power System and the Operator Total Care (OTC) package. These three DNA components increase operator safety, comfort and productivity.

SAS, the world’s first active safety system for forklifts, offers superior protection to forklift operators and goods by reducing the risk of loads slipping off the forks and forklift tip-over. For example, the Active Mast Front Tilt Angle Control feature automatically limits the forward tilt of the mast to prevent load slippage and to prevent overloaded trucks from tipping over.

The second component of Toyota’s electric forklift DNA is the AC² Power System, which combines powerful AC motors with intelligent Toyota AC controllers. The Power Select function allows operators to manage the AC² system to maximum effect. Three different power modes – Standard, Power and High Power – allow fine-tuning depending on the driving and lifting speed required for a particular application. Accel-Off braking enhances safety and productivity by combining the accelerator and brake in one comfortable pedal.

The final Toyota Electric DNA component is the OTC package, which is a unique combination of ergonomic features that maximise operator comfort and reduce fatigue for a safer, more productive driving experience. A low, broad step allows easy access to the forklift, and the tilted steering column can be adjusted to suit the needs of each individual driver. All controls are ergonomically positioned for optimum comfort and productivity.

Craig Walby, Product Manager, Toyota Industrial Equipment Europe, comments: “The Toyota Electric DNA concept is based around providing world-leading levels of safety, comfort, efficiency and productivity for the end user.

“Changing regulations and interest in alternative fuel sources has led to a growing demand for electric forklifts in many European markets. Toyota is committed to developing advanced, environmentally friendly technologies, and to being at the leading edge of electric forklift design.”
