January 2007 - Toyota Industries Corporation enjoys record-breaking year

Toyota Industries Corporation has once again been recognised as the world leader in materials handling in two major European publications.

Figures published in two German publications, Logistik Journal and DHF Magazine show that Toyota’s materials handling business has enjoyed a record-breaking year, achieving global sales of over 180,000 units.

The data, which is based on annual turnover for the financial year April 2005 to March 2006 also showed that Toyota achieved a turnover of more than four billion Euros, the first time a materials handling manufacturer has exceeded this figure.

Both surveys revealed that the materials handling market remains strong despite economic uncertainty. Overall sales in the sector rose by almost 10 percent but Toyota was found to be the undisputed number one in the world, well ahead of its competitors in terms of turnover.

Osamu Miura, President of Toyota Industrial Equipment Europe said: “Retaining the position of world leader in materials handling is an outstanding achievement for Toyota and demonstrates the organisation’s ongoing commitment to developing industry-leading materials handling solutions.

“We know that customers value Toyota for its innovative approach and the company has a well-deserved reputation for reliability, safety and quality. Achieving a turnover of more than four billion Euros for the first time highlights this achievement.”

Toyota began exporting forklifts from Japan in 1958 and has gone on to enjoy a reputation for quality, safety and reliability around the globe. In Europe, Toyota has 21 distributors operating in 28 countries.
